The steadyPRINT WebCenter offers the option to share a VPD printer via the so-called VPD share. Supported assignment types are vDirect, vName and Logical Printer. This allows software products that are only able to work with shared printers to be connected.

|
Despite being shared, the VPD printer cannot be used for printing from a remote computer. Currently, this is not technically planned. Use the usual VPD assignment types instead for providing the printers on a remote computer. |
You will find the share option directly in the tab of the respective detailed printer view (see figure: Configuration of VPD printer share).
Figure 58: steadyPRINT WebCenter - Configuration of VPD share
The share is controlled per printer. There are two options available for this:
1. A fixed share name.
2. A dynamically defined share name which is specified using variables:
• | Example: At the time of execution PRT_{0}_004 results in e.g. PRT_MyPrinter_004 |
• | Available indices: 0 (printer name), 1 (printer commment), 2 (printer location) and 3 (printer share name) |
• | Default: Empty |
In order to specify the share name, the VPD share has to be activated first via the check mark. Only then the field for the entry of the share name can be edited. Deactivating the option does not reset the share name. If the filed is left blank, the printer name is used automatically. The name structure is done dynamically on the client side together with the optionally pre-defined variables.
